The Society will hold a meeting at 10:00 am February 2, 2008 in Sarasota, FL during the Sarasota National Stamp Exhibition. The Exhibition is open from 9:30 am February 1st through 3 pm February 3rd. The meeting will take place in the City of Sarasota Municipal Auditorium where the Exhibition is held; the meeting room will be announced later. The Exhibition is very large. Last year there were over 40 dealers; 2800 pages of exhibits; US and UN post offices; and first day of issue ceremonies. The show is well worth attending. Our hotel will be the Hyatt Sarasota, 1000 Boulevard of the Arts, Sarasota, FL 34236, please see the hotel website for more details. It is about a block from the Municipal Auditorium. The hotel features almost 300 rooms; several restaurants and lounges; a health club; and access to Sarasota Bay. Room rates for the show are not available yet, but will be sent to those interested as soon as possible. The Society is planning an informal dinner which will be held the evening of Friday February 1st then and a more formal dinner on the evening of Saturday, February 2nd. Times and locations will be determined later. For those with additional time, the Hyatt serves an excellent Sunday brunch that might be of interest.
Several presentations are planned, as well as the Society's business meeting. Miklos Pinther will lead a discussion on exhibiting; Mark Honig will talk about Eclipses or Maps on Gutters; David Wolfersberger will present maps stamps from the Sovereign Order of Malta; and an updated report of the Society's website will be prepared by Reese Plews. Please see the last issue of TNCP for details on hotels. If you plan to attend please notify David Wolfersberger. The Sarasota Airport is within about 3 miles of the hotel but has limited service. The Tampa International Apirport has lots of service but is about 40 miles from the hotel, so a rental car or other transportation would be needed. Once it is known those who will arrive at Tampa and the times, transportation options such as ride sharing may be investigated. If you are interested in attending, please contact David Wolfersberger. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available, including procedures for booking rooms. Please consider making a presentation at our meeting.
